Last updated: 4 June 2026 · Applies to the BinMate app for iOS & Android
The short version. BinMate is built to be private. You don’t need an account, and the details you enter — your postcode, addresses and bin types — are stored on your device, not on our servers. We don’t sell your personal data. A few optional features rely on trusted services (in-app purchases and your council’s public schedule look-up), and if the app shows ads they’re served by Google. Each is explained below.
This policy covers the BinMate mobile app. Our website has a separate privacy policy.
1. Who we are
BinMate (the “App”) is developed and operated by Anas Hafidi. For any privacy question, email contact@7afidi.com. For UK/EU data-protection law we are the data controller for the limited personal data below.
2. Information we collect
a) Information that stays on your device
BinMate stores the following locally on your device only; it isn’t transmitted to us and we can’t see it:
- Your postcode and any addresses you add;
- The property identifier (UPRN) used to look up a schedule, where applicable;
- Your bin types, colours and collection frequencies;
- Your reminder preferences and theme settings.
This data is removed when you delete the App or clear its data.
b) Council schedule look-ups (auto-detect)
If you use the optional auto-detect feature, the App sends your postcode and/or selected address to your local council’s public schedule service over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to retrieve your collection dates. You initiate this, and the council’s handling is governed by its own privacy notice. The App also downloads the UK bank-holiday list from gov.uk; that request contains no personal data.
c) In-app purchases
If you buy BinMate Pro, the purchase is processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play and validated through RevenueCat. These services may process your purchase history, a device/app identifier, and your country to complete, restore and manage purchases. We never receive or store your card details.
d) Advertising
If the App shows advertising, ads are served by Google AdMob. To serve, cap, measure and (where permitted) personalise ads, Google and its partners may process your advertising identifier, device information, IP address/approximate location and ad-interaction data. Google acts as an independent controller for this. See Google’s Privacy Policy. Your ad choices are in section 6.
e) Notifications & the widget
Reminders and the home/lock-screen widget are generated on your device and send no data off the device.
3. How we use information
- To provide the core service — projecting and reminding you of bin-collection days;
- To detect your schedule when you ask us to;
- To sell, deliver, restore and manage BinMate Pro;
- Where applicable, to display advertising;
- To maintain security and respond to support requests.
4. Legal bases (UK/EU GDPR)
| Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Storing your settings on your device & reminders | Performance of our agreement with you |
| Council schedule look-up you initiate | Your request / performance of our agreement |
| Processing purchases | Performance of a contract |
| Personalised advertising (if shown) | Your consent |
| Security & non-personalised ads | Our legitimate interests |
5. We don’t sell your personal data
We don’t sell your personal data for money. We share data only with the providers needed to run the App, or where required by law.
6. Advertising & your choices
- UK, EEA & Switzerland: where required, we ask for your consent to personalised ads the first time you use the App; you can change this later.
- iOS: personalised ads using the IDFA require permission under App Tracking Transparency (Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking).
- Android: opt out or reset your Advertising ID in Settings → Google → Ads.
7. Third-party services
| Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Apple App Store / Google Play | Distribution & billing |
| RevenueCat | In-app purchase management |
| Google AdMob (if ads are shown) | Advertising |
| Your local council | Collection-schedule look-up |
| GOV.UK | Bank-holiday data (no personal data) |
8. Retention
Data on your device remains until you delete it or uninstall the App. Data held by the providers above follows their own policies.
9. Security
All network connections use encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Because your settings live on your device, their security also depends on your device’s own protection (passcode, biometrics, OS updates).
10. Children
BinMate is intended for adults managing a household and is not directed at children.
11. Your rights
Under UK/EU GDPR you can access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing, and request portability. As most data lives only on your device, you can exercise much of this directly in the App. For anything else, email contact@7afidi.com. You may also complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).
12. International transfers
Providers may process data outside the UK/EEA (including the US) under appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
13. Changes
We may update this policy; the “Last updated” date shows when. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
14. Contact
Email contact@7afidi.com.
