Check for a collection point that explicitly accepts crisp packets. Do not treat a shiny packet as ordinary aluminium foil or assume your household plastic bin accepts it.
Find the right route
Recycle Now’s crisp-packet guide points to selected retailer and specialist collection options. Verify the current scheme and location before making a trip; a supermarket selling crisps does not establish that its branch collects the packets.
Check your council too if it has introduced a local film collection. Follow its specific accepted-items list rather than extending a general “plastic” instruction to all flexible packaging.
Prepare packets for an accepted collection
Empty out crumbs and follow any cleanliness or packing instructions. Keep other rubbish out of the bag you use to collect them. If a point is full or unavailable, take the material home rather than leaving it beside the container.
Multi-pack outer wrapping and individual packets may need separate checks. A recycling label can refer to one component rather than everything in the pack.
Why foil guidance is different
A metallised plastic wrapper is not the same as a sheet of household aluminium foil. Do not combine crisp packets into a foil ball. See foil recycling for the material distinction.

What if no accepted route is available?
Follow the council’s residual-waste instructions for that packaging. Do not put it in another recycling stream in the hope that it will be sorted later.
